Our coast dresses mourning

Thursday, 16 April, 2015
On Monday 13, the southern coast of our islands flooded a color that banishes our crystalline waters and condemns our biodiversity. The black color of death.
The Russian fishing boat "Oleg Naydenov" and his 1400 tons of fuel, bottomed 24 km south of Punta de Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, after being burned in the dock area. The complicated maneuver displacement of the ship to sea, was criticized by numerous environmental organizations that, like us, felt the terrifying thrill of living again something well known by all Spanish citizens: the Prestige disaster.
"Man is the only one who stumbles twice on the same stone" but we cannot play with other lives. The lives of the voiceless who have no one to defend them: animals.
The collapse has already begun to collect its first victims. Yesterday the authorities found floating  a Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) completely impregnated with fuel . He was immediately taken to the Tafira Wildlife Recovery Center, where the team of veterinarians and biologists try to bring up this wonderful specimen of this endangered species.
The competent authorities continue to investigate what were the triggers fire and try to locate ship's owners to understand what happened, for allegedly had received several complaints of illegal fishing.
From Oasis Park Fuerteventura we give our full support and send our forces to all activists, professionals and volunteers who are putting body and soul to keep our costs and our biodiversity in perfect condition. In the end, are our greatest treasure and what makes us being magical.
Oasis Park Fuerteventura is committed to the rescue and recovery of these wonderful animals. We say NO to oil exploration and NOT the deterioration of our marine and coastal ecosystems as a result of bad political efforts. And so today we dressed in mourning, to make stronger our resounding NO.
